Advanced Dilemma

So had a night off last night as was out watching No.1 daughter sing in the school choir competition at Essex Uni (they didn’t win, was a bloody fix, by far the better choir) and have today spent 7 hours sat on my sofa staring at laptop on an online HP training course on 3par Storage.  Believe me its as as glamorous as it sounds.  Currently the old pins are feeling a little stiff, arse a little numb, brain more than a little numb and enthusiasm to venture out rather low.

Saw and shared a meme on bookface the other week about your karate journey being hard and after many years of training there will be times when you are bored, tired, discouraged.  This is one of those times I guess.  Sure my Sensei will have something to say about that so best get my arse into gear and go get sweaty.  Its advanced class this evening so will undoubtedly be painful.  The level of pain will be closely linked to what mood the Sensei is in, but even if in a good mood he does like to push his senior grades, and rightly so. There are some Dan grading’s coming up next month so those poor buggers will be fit to vomit later I expect.

As for myself, sitting here with the sofa bum groove nice and warm under my slightly numb rear end, its decision time.  There is a beginners class on before advanced so I could mooch down for that and continue  my own education on being an Instructor, and I could then decide if I want to stay for advanced and all the pain that goes with it., or I could ask No.1 daughter to bring me the TV remote and a cup of tea and…….

Sigh, better get my Gi on.  problem with blogging is the Bossman will know why I didnt turn up for training.
I shall update this post later to let you know if I was man enough for both classes……….

Well, I did ask for it. Mooched down to help out with beginners and decided to stay for advanced. Took the warm up and did my best to get the students to take it seriously, it was an advanced class after all. Aside from couple of individuals who’s attitude is always tip top the majority showed poor form and attitude and didn’t enter into the spirit at all. I don’t quite know what to do about it, they obviously don’t see me as an instructor and senior grade and someone to take seriously. Never work with kids and animals as they say…

Anyway mentioned to Sensei Doyland they were useless and deserved some pain and suffering and he didn’t disappoint. An hour of body conditioning, everything done under tension or under resistance, such as drills up and down tatami with someone hanging off your belt behind you, or sat in horse stance punching under tension with someone stood on your hips.

I don’t know what the kids thought of it but Brendan, a fellow old dragon, and I came off the matt sweaty and shaky. Was a marvellous session. Very glad I vacated that bum groove and made the effort. Shall sleep well tonight.

Footnote;  Didnt sleep too well in the end, muscles kept twitching.  This morning my jaw hurts so must have had that under tension during the whole class, either that or wife was punching me in the night….

Training Hard

After a longish spell of several months where I was unable to train due to angry bowels (middle age is just wonderful) I am now back training hard and teaching the young ones.  6 sessions in the last 4 days, 1 x Kick Boxing and 2 x Kumite and 3 x Karate.  With an all day at Toyakwai comp in Clacton as table and mirror judge.

Very glad normal service has resumed, I get grumpy when I cant train.
